First half 2025

My 2024 summary is here. This is a midyear check-in to see how I am doing against my 2025 goals (in Italics).

Remain injury free: I have been fortunate to avoid injuries so far, possibly because I don't run at high paces :)

Consistent Training volume: Targeting 3650 km for the year and 100-120 strength training sessions. Currently at 46% of the goal (1680.27 km YTD) with 60 strength sessions completed—this pace aligns well with last year's midyear progress, suggesting I'm on track to meet or even surpass my targets.

Try and fix sleep: My goal is to consistently average 7 hours of sleep per night, which is about 30 minutes more than my current average of 6h11m. Improving my sleep is important because better rest will leave me feeling more refreshed and support stronger performance in my training

Stricter diet/nutrition/portion control focus: I am disciplined 50-60% of the time. My fruits intake ought to improve and junk food intake could reduce further.

Run a decent sub 4h marathon, haven't focused on pace since Tokyo Marathon. Unsure if there is pace left in my legs: I hadn't focused on pace since the Tokyo Marathon, and I really wasn't sure if there was still sub-4-hour pace left in my legs. Despite those doubts, I managed to achieve a solid sub 4h finish at Boston—you can read about that outing here.

Run Malnad Ultra in preparation for Khardung La 72 km (2026): I am considering participating in the Malnad Ultra but will decide around September this year.

Train and run Comrades in the next 24 months: Comrades is on my horizon for the next two years now. I’ll need to select a qualifying race and ensure I maintain my qualification status. I’m still debating whether to attempt both the ‘up’ and ‘down’ routes in consecutive years—time will tell.

I'm still debating whether to fit in a focused 10–12 weeks training block aiming for a fast half marathon—maybe targeting a 100-minutes finish: What do you think: Should I go for it now, or is it wiser to push this goal to 2026? At this moment, I’m not in any shape to run Sub 100-minutes time.
